Pacific Light is a video tape of the Pacific ocean with peaceful music playing. No talking.
The first time I played the tape, I fell asleep. Since I don't fall asleep easily, I found this wonderful! As a chronic fatigue syndrome sufferer, I went through nearly a year without much restful sleep. Restful sleep is something healthy people take for granted.
The second time I watched it, I stayed awake. The long notes of the flute felt like they resonated with my body. As I watched and listened to it, I wished the tape was a continuous loop so it could play all night long.
I've read books that recommend meditating on a peaceful scene to calm the mind. The trouble I have is keeping my concentration on that peaceful scene. Television does induce a trancelike state in people. The combination of peaceful music with the video helps me reach a calm state of mind and maintain it longer than when I meditate without it.
I have found meditation recommended for CFS in many, many books. This tape makes it much easier to do.
I think that in the future, tapes such as this one will be prescribed by doctors. Something like this should always be available on the TV in hospitals.
