Heavy metals pass the blood-brain barrier unhindered. Thus a two month old baby with a metallothionein deficiency injected with the DTPP/HIB vaccination in two separate shots, is injected with 2 x 25 mcg of aluminum and is unable to bind the aluminum and expel it from its body...."

Mary Megson,MD, Megson's research has shown total deficiency of vitamin A in almost all autistic children. What depletes the body of vitamin A at 15 months? The MMR vaccine. In addition, Megson found that pertussis toxin from the DPT shot disrupted a certain protein that is necessary for retinal formation. This would account for the prevalence of night-blindness and loss of 3D vision so common among autistics.

Is autism a G-alpha protein defect reversible with natural vitamin A?

Autism may be a disorder linked to the disruption of the G-alpha protein, affecting retinoid receptors in the brain. A study of 60 autistic children suggests that autism may be caused by inserting a G-alpha protein defect, the pertussis toxin found in the DPT vaccine, into genetically at-risk children. This toxin separates the G-alpha protein from retinoid receptors. Those most at risk report a family history of at least one parent with a pre-existing G-alpha protein defect, including night blindness, pseudohypoparathyroidism or adenoma of the thyroid or pituitary gland.Natural vitamin A may reconnect the retinoid receptors critical for vision, sensory perception, language processing and attention. Autism spectrum disorders have increased from 1 in 10 000 in 1978 to 1 in 300 in some US communities in 1999. Recent evidence indicates that autism is a disorder of the nervous system and the immune system, affecting multiple metabolic pathways.

John O'Leary,PhD: A world-class researcher and molecular biologist from Ireland , using state-of-the-art sequencing technology, showed how he had found the measles virus in the gut of 96% of autistic children, compared to 6.6% in normal children. Dr. O'Leary found measles virus present in 75% of children with Crohn's disease. Crohn's has traditionally been an intestinal disease of adults, following years of dietary abuse. Its appearance in children is a new event.

V. Singh, MDM A specialist from Utah State who has studied over 400 cases of autism, found that these children had experienced an autoimmune episode, in which their own bodies had been made to attack the linings of their nervous systems. Dr. Singh characterized the epidemic as a "hyperimmune response to the measles virus." He stated that 55% of the families said that autism appeared soon after an MMR shot, and that 33% of families said it appeared soon after a DPT shot.

Autism rates in Japan continued to rise after the withdrawal of MMR vaccine. The experience of Japan therefore constitutes a real-world experiment of replacing triple MMR vaccine with single vaccines because of problems with production.

Eric Fombonne: Well it depends on the question being asked. If the question is are there more children today diagnosed with autism or autism spectrum disorder as compared to 30 or 40 years ago the answer is yes. We do diagnose more often these conditions than we used to do in the past. Does that mean that there is an epidemic of autism - no, and the reason is as follows. 40 years ago the diagnostic criteria that we use for diagnosing autism were relatively narrow so we were really looking at children who were often mentally retarded, had no language or very abnormal language development. At the time we did not recognise that autism could also occur in children with normal intellectual functioning, children with an IQ 100 or 120 who could have good language development for instance. And therefore it's no surprise that we are actually now diagnosing autism spectrum disorders in a higher number of children than in the past....

Eric Fombonne: But the thiomersal issue is more important. And the thiomersal issue has to do with the fact that we have used over the years small amounts of ethyl mercury in the vaccines to stabilise the vaccines in multiple dose vials. In Quebec again we are fortunate that in the period that we studied there were changes in how much mercury was used in the vaccines. So from 1987 to 1991 there was a dose of about 100 and 125 micrograms of ethyl mercury in the vaccines and then because we introduced new vaccines in 1992, the dose to which young children were exposed before age 2 actually rose to 200 and even 225 micrograms. And then what happened in Quebec is that in 1996 they decided to combine these four vaccines DCP, HIB with the polio vaccine which is a live attenuated vaccines. And because live vaccines cannot tolerate the use of thiomersal, thiomersal was altogether removed from the vaccines in 1996. So we had a wonderful natural experiment where we could look at whether or not our trends in our rates of PDDs were bearing any relationship with variability in the levels of exposure to thimerosal and in fact all the techniques that we used failed to show that there was any relationship between the two phenomena....
