AUTOMOBILES/DRIVING
RIDES IN CAR
| If you want to be picked up somewhere at a certain time,
you have to ask in advance.
Last minute calls are okay only if it's an emergency (if we're
convinced there was no other safe way for you to get home) & if it's
not just an attempt to avoid the consequences of being late.
If you want a parent to drive you (and friends) somewhere, you are
expected to ASK and not assume we will drive you. |
DRIVING PRIVILEGES:
| If it comes to our attention at any time that you have
been in a moving vehicle of which the driver - you or anyone else - even
appeared to be drunk, we will personally suspend your driver's license
for one year -- or you will wait an extra year before you are allowed to
get one. As a minor, you can only have a drivers license with parental
permission.
You are to call home or relative for advice and/or transportation at
any hour from any place if you are ever in a situation where you or a
friend who is driving you has had too much to drink. We will come and
get you with no questions asked and no argument at that time. We would
expect to discuss the issue at a later time. |
USE OF FAMILY CAR:
| You must ask permission in advance. Don't assume you will
get permission.
You are to return the car in better condition than you borrowed it.
(Wash it, put gasoline in tank, vacuum/wash interior, clean out trash.) |
OWNERSHIP OF A CAR:
| You must be able to afford the car and all expenses
connected to ownership: insurance, repairs, gasoline, etc.
You must be able to afford the time that owning a car entails e.g.
time away from schoolwork/studies for a job. |
GETTING YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE:
| You may get your permit as soon as you are old enough to
do so.
You may get your license when you actually need one. Being able to go
out with friends is not needing one.
