It is time to clean out the refrigerator

Words – © Barbara F Gregory 10/5/2000*

Tune – “Fiddler has played his last tune for the night”

Chorus:

It is time to clean out the refrigerator

Time to get rid of the gunk!

Time to scrub off the black fuzzy mildew

That’s growin’ clear ‘round the door.

Verse 1:

The top shelf is sticky with something that spilled

It dripped all over the door

It puddled on the bottom shelf where it dripped even further

All the way down to the floor.

Oh, there’s petrified pizza and shriveled green beans,

Green fuzzy lemons and limes,

Mysterious liquids with islands of mold,

And containers of black icky slime.

Verse 2:

This leftover chicken has really gone bad

The fowl has really turned foul

And what is this strange stuff that somebody wrapped

And hid in my best kitchen towel?

Better not open that big plastic bag

I think it used to be bread

Save it to use as a source of penicillin

Or throw it in the trash, instead.

Verse 3:

Why did you save all this unpalatable food

Did you think it would get better in time?

Or rather than insulting the cook right away

You let it turn into inedible slime.

You don’t want to tell someone you love

That he really is a lousy cook

Say “Looks good but I’m full; I’ll save it for later.”

Meanwhile burn his cookbooks…

*Sing this to your heart's content. Xerox, including the copyright, and hand it out to friends. Perform it with your group. If you want to record it, that's OK, too. LOL!! Just send me an email and give me credit for the words.
