ElectroDermal Analysis: A Scientific Correlation with Pathophysiology: Summary

This is a study of the correlation of ElectroDermal Analysis with both the clinical and laboratory diagnosis in 100 patients have been compared to 30 normal age adjusted control subjects. The correlation between the EDA measured abnormalities, using standard deviation (SDI) criteria and patients with Chronic Inflammatory Demylinating Polyneuropathy disease state was statistically significant at 99.5% with a P< 0.005. Thus EDA has proven itself, when utilized by a skilled technician; to be a valuable tool for the analysis and definition of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy.

Abstracts of the ICMART '97 International Medical Acupuncture Symposium

"The aim of the work was to perform a comparative study of diagnostic methods of the school medicine and of EAV according to Dr.med. Voll when ascertaining food allergy...

"It appears that the EAV method represents a great contribution also for the diagnostics of food allergies. It has practically no limitations, does not burden the patient, is cheap, reliable, and makes a timely diagnosis of food allergies possible as early as in the infants, which also makes a timely solution of the whole problem possible."

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to demonstrate two differences between diabetes mellitus patients and healthy subjects. 1)The bioenergetic measurement of electroacupuncture points and 2) the energy changes on diseased organs. In this phase of study, the authors chose diabetes mellitus because of the accuracy of diagnosing established diabetic patients. The data was analysed by discriminant analysis which showed a 95 to 97.5% correct classification rate by test.

A Food Allergy Study Utilizing the EAV Acupuncture Technique

Julia J. Tsuei, MD., Carl W. Lehman, M.D., Fred M.K. Lam, Jr., MD,

and David A.H. Zhu, MD

Abstract: Six diagnostic measures were performed on 30 volunteers. Five of the six diagnostic measures are currently utilized procedures for allergy, namely history and food challenge, skin, RAST, and IgE tests. The sixth and new method is based upon Electroacupuncture According to Voll (EAV). Results showed that the EAV test evidences a high degree of compatibility with the other five, particularly the food challenge test. As a new, noninvasive but sensitive test, it was found to be quite promising.

KAIL, Naturopathic Family Care, Phoenix, AZ, USA, kkail@home.com, used a diagnostic and treatment protocol of electrodermal screening in allergy patients.

Methods: 90 patients with a diagnosis of allergy or sensitivity were treated with electrodermal screening. Treatment was continued to an endpoint chosen as normalisation of electrodermal conductivity at specific acupuncture points. An Allergy Symptom Severity Index was developed to measure outcome.

Results: A statistically significant change in pre- and post treatment measurements was observed. 87.2% of patients rated the efficacy of the treatment as good or excellent. Evaluation at up to three years post treatment still showed excellent results, suggesting excellent longevity of the treatment. 48% of patients experienced an initial exacerbation of symptoms lasting on average 10 hours. No serious long-term adverse effects could be detected.

Conclusions: Electrodermal screening appears to be an effective, long-lasting, and economical treatment for allergy across all gender and age groups.

Kail K. Clinical outcomes of a diagnostic and treatment protocol in allergy/sensitivity patients. Alternative Medicine Review 6 (2): 188-202, Apr 2001.

Comments: Electrodermal screening for allergy diagnosis and treatment is often criticized by the medical profession. The above clinical results are exceptionally positive, lasting even up to the 3-year follow-up. Greater respect by the medical community for such methods for allergy treatment is genuinely warranted.

The Marburg amalgam detoxification study - Bernhard A. Weber, Regina Schneider

... researchers from UCLA and USC. In a double-blind study, 3 patients with lung cancer and 20 controls... There was an 87 percent correlation...

Another study from... UCLA School of Medicine, evaluated the ability of meridian stress assessment to identify, in a blinded fashion, areas of pain. ... greater than 75 percent accuracy... The results of this test were therefore more impressive than the statistical analysis would indicate.

... William Rea, M.D. from Dallas, an internationally known pioneer in environmental medicine... set up a simple double-blind study .... approximately 80 percent of the cases.

"In addition, Tsuei and Lam14,15 studied 300 patients with multiple allergies and concluded that EAV is a sensitive test and correlated significantly with the food challenge test in those patients. Furthermore, confirmatory studies in patients with an allergic response using the ElectroDermal-screening device provided a 70-75% correlation with the clinical history and physical examination and to that of allergen challenge test. This study was repeated in a double blind fashion and the correlation was 73%." [link is dead. from 2008]

"We have completed over 20 studies using the EDSS, 8 of which are translated into English. In the first study, 11 patients receiving treatment in a family practice were observed. Conditions seen included peptic ulcer, appendicitis, chronic chorea, and cancer of the colon, breast and uterus. In every case, readings taken with EDSD matched standard diagnostic tests (46). In another study, allergy symptoms were assessed by standard diagnostic methods. Testing with EDST correlated closely with accepted criteria, particularly the food rechallenge test, considered the most reliable method of testing for food allergies (20)."

The high accuracy of EAV in the case of amalgam is well demonstrated by our own blindstudy (1993; Danz, Leber, Schneider, Weber).

"In another EAV study, [Evoked Electrical conductivity on the Lung Acupuncture Points in Healthy Individuals and Confirmed Lung Cancer Patients] Sullivan, Eggleston, Martinoff, and Kroenig, at the U. C. L. A. School of Medicine, Los Angeles, tested 30 patients in comparison of x-ray picture and measurement by electroacupuncture on the lung point on the hand between 26 "healthy lungs" and four carcinoma patients in a blind test dividing screen with limited view of the hands. It showed a clearly positive correlation between the measuring points and the pathologies. Several other works about special skin points with less electrical resistance were referred in this study."

"L. Klinger, Heidelberg, in 1987 measuring with EAV points could make significant distinctions between patients with healthy and diseased lungs as TBC and lung carcinoma. (Z. Allg. Med. 63.563-567) The measuring points as the basis of EAV here could be documented positive."

"In a clinical field study about conductivity measurements in EAV (Magazin for orthodox medicine 1979, 52, 304 - 311) by Siegfried Häussler, Wolfgang Köpcke and Karl Überla, where 18 established medical doctors took part in a study with 609 sick patients. The measurement conductivity was determined by the doctor and the physician's assistant, that the exact procedure of measurement could be affirmed. The exactness of the conductivity definitely is sufficient and is in same range like regular standard examination, i. e. the measurement of the blood pressure, vital signs, etc. The correlation of the point conductivities was provable. Furthers examinations are necessary to substantiate further hypothesis and to examine the clinical relevance according to the authors."

"In the cases of 116 chronic patients the results of EAV were compared by Fonk with those of laboratory. The laboratory results, assuming an intact immune system showed two cases with bacteriological cystitis were missed. On the other hand the EAV as diagnostic procedure independent from the immune reaction brings a lot of data. This is not only a diagnosis but a systematic therapy, whereby the extent of therapy depends on the ability of the immune system to regenerate. A typical case of chronic posterior uveitis was presented. Independently from the respective symptoms it is possible to prove a case of a typical constellation of findings. A common characteristic is the infections susceptibility and a triade disturbance in the ENT, intestinal, kidney and urological system. Overall symptom is a weakness of susceptibility of these patients is discussed, as a consequence of therapy with dominant suppressive medicine. Fonk, Ingrid: Seronegative Toxoplasmose. What the modern laboratory is able to do in case of insufficiency of immune system? In: Voll, R.: New results of research by EAV. ML-Verlag, Uelzen, 1987"

A study was performed at the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine to determine if the E.A.V. lung test readings would be worse on confirmed lung cancer patients as compared to controls. A high degree of correlation was noted with 26 of the 30 E.A.V. examinations matching the chest X-ray results in a blind test. ["Evoked Electrical Conductivity on the Lung Acupuncture Points in Healthy Individual And Confirmed Lung Cancer Patients," American Journal of Acupuncture, Vol. 13, No. 3, July-Sept 1985.]

Another fascinating study sought to measure the effectiveness of E.A.V. testing in measuring food allergy. It compared the electro-dermal testing with five conventional medicine methods of food allergy testing-skin, RAST, IgE, history, and food challenge. Results showed a high degree of correlation, particularly with food challenge, probably the most accurate of the conventional methods. ["A Food Allergy Study Utilizing the EAV Acupuncture Technique," American Journal of Acupuncture, Vol. 12, No. 2, April-June 1984.]
