"In one of my research studies, I examined red blood cells of patients with chronic fatigue with a high-resolution, phase-contrast microscope. I observed deformities of the red cell membrane and loss of normal plasticity of cell walls in up to 80% of cells. (Am J Clin Pathol 94:515;1990). The cell membrane deformities included sharp angulation, spike formation and saw tooth-like irregularities."

"Because there is no specific test to 'prove' you have the syndrome, it is diagnosed by symptoms...that severely restrict normal activity and are not due to other diseases of the immune system such as AIDS, cancer, and lupus. These are the typical symptoms of the disease, according to the CDC. [Centers for Disease Control]:"
